Notary Public is a legal position that allows us to offer a variety of services related to certifying, witnessing, and legalizing different types of documents to ensure their legal validity, both within Sweden and internationally. We assist with witnessing signatures, certifying the accuracy of copies of documents, and issuing apostilles for documents to be used abroad.
Do not hesitate to contact us to book an appointment or to obtain more information about our Notary Public services. In most cases, we are able to offer same-day appointments.
Choice of stamps and certifications
It is your responsibility to know which stamps are required for your documents. We can provide guidance on the most common types of stamps, but it is your responsibility to determine what is required for the specific document or its intended use.
A certification is issued by a notary public and relates to the document itself or to the signature. For example, a notary public may certify that a person has signed a document, that a signature is genuine, or that a copy corresponds to the original. The certification therefore confirms certain factual circumstances concerning the document or the signature.
An apostille, on the other hand, is a special certificate issued under the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. The apostille certifies that the signature on a document is genuine, the capacity in which the person signed the document, and, where applicable, that the seal or stamp on the document is authentic. It may be affixed to documents signed by a public official, such as a notary public, a court official, or another government representative.
The difference is therefore that a certification concerns the document or the signature itself, whereas an apostille confirms that the public official’s signature and authority are authentic so that the document can be accepted in other states that are parties to the Hague Convention. For this reason, a document is often first certified by a notary public and then provided with an apostille when it is to be used abroad.
Please note that the minimum charge for a booked appointment is SEK 400. This applies even if it is not clear during the meeting which stamps are required or if no stamps are used, as the time and preparation for the appointment are nevertheless reserved for you.
Our services include, among other things:
Witnessing of signatures
We are able to attest to the authenticity of a signature on a document and that it has been duly executed by the proper individual
Certification of copies
We certify that a copy of an original document is accurate and corresponds with the original.
Issuance of apostilles
For documents intended for use abroad, we can issue an apostille, which is an international certification of a document’s authenticity in accordance with the Hague Convention.
We are authorised to issue an apostille in either Swedish or English.
